Let’s talk toasts. We have heard a lot of toasts. .. a lot of good toasts and a lot of bad toasts.
LIMIT THE TOAST
DON’T TALK FOREVER
If you’re giving a toast first off, congratulations for having this opportunity, what an honor!
Tell your toast givers that your wedding planner gave them a FIVE minute limit. a perfect toast is really only three minutes long, can you believe that?
TELL US SOMETHING WE DIDN’T ALREADY KNOW
Good toasts are amazing. We absolutely love listening to them, it’s always such a special opportunity for your guests to learn even more about the couple than they already did! We suggest beginning your toast with the background of your relationship with the couple and then reflecting solely on the couple, rather than an individual. Share something heartwarming and special and keep it positive.
Consider the fact that the point of a toast is to celebrate the couple you’re honoring. We have heard brothers bash the groom because they thought they were funny and talked for over thirty minutes. We have heard dad’s talk about everything except the couple for forty minutes, resulting in the bride in tears. So steer clear of turning it into a roast!
put it on paper
Nothing is more timeless than paper. Whether you started writing your speech on your phone or not, transfer it to a piece of paper. It’s always easier to read than a small phone and it just looks nicer in photos!
I hope this was helpful! Cheers and we can’t wait to hear all of your beautiful toasts!
XO,
Sarah
